Kinoyume Sushi and Grill

I came here for dinner today and it wasn't super busy, I was seated at a table immediately and the place seemed nice enough. I ordered the cucumber sunomono salad, which was okay, it wasn't completely marinated in the vinegar sauce but the seaweed on top was flavorful. I ordered the rocket roll and spider roll(?) it was like a spider roll but I don't think that's what it was called on the menu. The sushi was decent and I had no complaints with the food. I almost thought about going back if not for a glaring service issue. My gripe is there was a waitress who brought out my food and basically threw it on the table without confirming the orders were mine, and then proceeded to ignore me while checking in on the other tables. I thought there was a server change but they all periodically went around, but for some reason she chose to ignore me. This really made me wonder what I did but I ate alone and kept to myself, so who knows. I took off one star for this attitude that was directed at me. This really ruined the experience overall so I won't be back.

I’ve been here few times in the past two weeks and enjoyed every one of my meals very much. Their eel sauce has an underlying flavor, different than traditional flavor that is unique and pleasant. Their everything skewers plate is everything I hoped to be; It was beyond good but it needed a side order of rice for $2 more which made it perfect. My only recommendation is to cook the chicken skewers by 30 seconds longer!. Their eel sushi tasted fresh and light. My table host was a very attentive and professional young man. I would definitely revisit this place and recommend it to friends and family. Best Japanese restaurant in all La Jolla. I hope your experience will be as good as mine.

I used to really love this place but I think the quality and service has gone down a bit. Ordered the takoyaki and it was 5 pieces for $8.50 which I think is a bit pricey but the saddest part is there was barely any octopus in it. Also got the Spider on the Throne (soft shell crab) and it wasn't good. It was heavily breaded and soaked in oil - honestly it made me a little sick. Stick to the rolls when you come here.
